We had two runners on Thursday beginning with SPIRITUALLY who made her racecourse debut at Newcastle having missed the opportunity to run on the grass earlier in the season. We had her declared to run twice but, on both occasions, she had a problem on the day, which was obviously a bit frustrating. I didn’t want to run her on one of the all-weather tracks around a bend first time out as it all happens very quickly and, hence, we ran her over 5 furlongs at Newcastle. I am pleased to say she did everything right. She was well behaved beforehand and in the race itself travelled ok, although I must admit that they didn’t go that quick early on. When they did quicken the pace up, she was initially left a bit flat footed but then was staying on again through the last furlong. I was pleased with this run and, with it behind her, she can now go and run around a turn next time when she’ll have a much better idea of what life is all about. There are races for her in the first half of December and, all being well, she’ll head for one of those.

We hadn’t learnt too much about DELILAH PARK on her first run for us at the beginning of November other than I got the tactics completely wrong. We had tried to hold her up and get her to finish but she didn’t like that at all and sulked. So the plan at Wolverhampton on Thursday was to let her get into a nice rhythm and use her stride. There was plenty of pace in the race, which I think helped her quite a bit. Although it might have appeared she was held up, it was more that she didn’t have the pace to go with them early on. They were going a bit too quick in front and, as you would expect, when they got into the straight, horses starting falling away. Having found a nice rhythm, she was staying on strongly and ended up winning nicely, which was very pleasing for everybody. The way the race was run played to her strengths and she’s probably a horse that in a normally run race would want 6½ furlongs. However, a hard run 6 furlongs like this suited her well. She’s another that is likely to run again in the first half of December.

This week, we’ve got TRADE TALKS entered at Chelmsford on Thursday evening. He’ll also be entered for a race at Wolverhampton on Saturday and has further options next week. We’ll have him well entered up and run him wherever we think he has the best chance.
