The last week has been a quiet one with just DELILAH PARK in action at Haydock on Friday. We went up there looking for some better ground but didn’t expect it to be quite as soft as it was. The conditions were officially heavy, so we were heading into the unknown with her. She seemed to handle the ground okay but probably wasn’t helped by the draw. It wasn’t that the track favoured one side or the other, but the race developed away from where we were. Nevertheless, she stuck on well, ran to the line and to only be beaten four lengths on that sort of ground wasn’t a long way. We learnt a bit about her on the night and I thought this was a satisfactory effort. Hopefully we’ll be able to find something suitable on ground with some cut but probably not quite as much as there was on this occasion.
We’ve got a few in races this week and LUCKY CHARM makes her seasonal bow at Yarmouth on Wednesday. She’s given us trouble at the stalls in the past, but she seems to be in a good place with them at the moment. That said, you never can judge her too much until you get her to the racecourse as she is always pretty good at home but can get a bit wound up on the track. We’ll have to see how she goes on the day.
PURGATORY is in a Classified Stakes at Yarmouth on Thursday and, as he’s been going nicely at home, I’d hope he would run well. CARLEEN has an entry at Newbury but I’m not sure yet whether she’ll run. I would like to see how that race might develop before committing her to that event.
Our recent winners BLACK LOTUS and FOLLOW INTELLO both have entries on Friday. DRAMATIC DEVICE is in at Goodwood but he doesn’t want the ground particularly soft and so we possibly won’t be running him.
On Saturday, HAN SOLO BERGER, who will enjoy some cut in the ground, and we’ve been waiting for that with him, so he could go to either Leicester or Sandown, depending on what the races look like. We’ve ZEYZOUN in at Leicester and he’ll also appreciate some cut in the ground. So, we’ve got a few dotted about who want the conditions and hopefully we can get them in the right sort of contests.
