Two weeks ago we were looking forward to having some runners over the opening weekend of the new turf season, the first  time we would have had runners at Doncaster for a number of years.  However the national crisis that we are all experiencing has meant that all racing is cancelled and plans are on hold. This has meant that we at Induna Stables have all had to change the way we do things.

The staff have all had to be made aware of hygiene and distancing themselves from each other particularly during the morning break.  Whilst working with the horses they are well separated from each other anyway.  At exercise it is important they are not riding upsides and that we do our best to keep away from other strings.  Changing the established habits of longstanding has been a challenge but our new routine is now bedded in.

The horses are still looked after to our normal high standard but their exercise has had to be cut back.  Two weeks ago the older ones were all systems go to start galloping so we have had to wind that back and get them settled into a ticking over routine.  It took a week or so before they relaxed into the new routine but all has been going well this week.  I have been videoing them at exercise and you can view these on our website in the gallop report section or follow the link

It is encouraging to see this evening that the BHA is planning a resumption of racing, probably on a limited scale, from May 1st but I am only cautiously optimistic about that at the moment and won’t be scaling up until we have some more concrete news.

I wish you all well and hope we can return something like a normal service in the not too distant future.
